Tornado in Madison County Kentucky

My son, D.J. goes to college in Berea, Ky., which is in Madison County. It is being reported on tricities.com that a confirmed tornado touched down there this evening with one confirmed death. We haven't been able to get in touch with him at all. Please pray for him and everyone concerned.

I saw that on the news over here. They reported one person dead and another missing. I hope he's alright. My sons' aunt lives over there, too...hope her and her kids are ok.

Just spoke to a friend who said most of the damaged area was not near Berea.

It was the one from yesterday. They're also dealing with some major flooding in eastern KY. We were spared from the worst of all this, just barely.

Chris Bailey has a good bit of pics/videos and more info on his website (including the Madison Co. tornado NWS survey info, which is being rated as a high end E-F2 to a low end E-F3..E-F3 is getting into that major tornado category)...

So far Morristown has confirmed tornadoes from that one storm we were talking about in the other thread in Scott and Claiborne Counties in TN (they've not posted anything yet on the other three or four possible counties (like Hawkins and Washington). Rated them E-F2.

That was around exit 84. It's a miracle I missed that one. I did think I saw some funny looking clouds. When I was in Richmond.

The heavy rains and flooding of last weekend allowed this piece of information to “work its way to the bottom of the stack,” so to say, so we wanted to give you a recap in today’s Water Cooler. The National Weather Service in Charleston has confirmed that a minor tornado touched down in southwest Virginia on Friday evening.

The tornado was confirmed in Dickenson County, Virginia, near Clintwood. The estimated time of the storm was 9:00 to 9:02 pm. It was an EF0, which is the weakest rating on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. The NWS has estimated its wind speed as between 65 and 75 mph, and says the storm had a path width of 100 yards and a length of 0.75 mile.
Here’s the NWS Summary: “An EF0 tornado touched down intermittently along its 0.75 mile long path just north of Clintwood. It first touched down on Fairview Road then again on Bear Pen Creek Road. Trees uprooted and fell on a mobile home… with minor roof damage to two other homes. There were no deaths or injuries.”

Maybe I'm one of the few, but even though we don't get many in this area, if there was thunderstorm approaching or ongoing and I heard a continous siren (even if I thought it was like our old fire whistle in Pennington, which I have actually come to miss, and was hit by lightning a lot and went off), at some point I would think that it could mean something of more importance like a tornado. Maybe that's me, I don't know, lol....
